If you are looking for ways to make your daily diet that little bit healthier then the good news is that there are plenty of small changes you can make today that will make a real difference to your health in the long run.

You don’t necessarily need to completely overhaul your diet and live off mung beans and seaweed for the rest of your life in order to become a bit healthier, you can simply swap a few foods here and there for healthier alternatives, in order to make a big difference to your diet overall.

First of all, try swapping white or brown bread for wholemeal bread, which has less sugars and more long lasting energy in the form of complex carbohydrates which will keep you going for longer and therefore mean you are less likely to snack on sugary or fatty foods. You could also try bread with seeds, such as granary bread, for added Omega nutrition as well as added taste!
When you cook, swap your usual oil for a low calorie cooking spray to instantly cut down on unnecessary calories. It will barely affect the taste and you can ensure your meals still taste delicious by flavouring with plenty of herbs and spices, as opposed to fats and salt. If you eat out, a good rule of thumb if you are unsure what would be healthiest to order from the menu is to choose dishes with tomato-based sauces over creamy or cheesy sauces. These dishes will be naturally lower in fat and calories and tomatoes are brilliant for all round health and nutrition.
Choose natural cottage cheese over full fat cheddar. Where possible, avoid artificially reduced fat products as these can often be higher in sugar and sweeteners to compensate, and choose naturally lower fat and calorie products instead.
